Maltais, Zumwinkle, Muller Named Finalists For PWHL's Rookie of the Year

Tuesday afternoon the Professional Women’s Hockey League announced that Emma Maltais of Toronto, Alina Müller of Boston, and Grace Zumwinkle of Minnesota are the finalists for the rookie of the year award.

This season Maltais was a critical part of Toronto's climb to first in the league standings. In just 24 regular season games the 24 year old has scored 19 points including 15 assists good enough for a tie for most in the league with Alex Carpenter.

On top of her offensive production the Ohio State production contributed immensely to Toronto’s physical brand of hockey.

For Zumwinkle she had a breakout performance tying for second in league scoring this year with Sarah Nurse, who both had 11 goals. These 11 goals contributed to her 19 overall points during her 24 regular season appearances.

Last but not least Müller finished her campaign as Boston's top scorer with 16 points in her first full season. Müller is the oldest player in consideration for the award at the age of 26-years-old.

To be eligible for the award players must be competing in their first professional season in North America and be at or under the age of 25 when the season begins.

The winner of the award will be announced in June along with all other major league awards on an undisclosed date.
