One women's hockey legend is coming to the PWHL before her career closes. Michelle Karvinen has officially declared for the PWHL Draft.
Karvinen recently won an SDHL title captaining Frölunda. It was the close to the European chapter of Karvinen's storied career.
“An adventure with a happy ending,” wrote Karvinen in a translated post. “Thanks to the Team, thanks Frölunda, thanks Gothenburg and most of all thanks to everyone who push women’s hockey forward step by step, you are my heroes!”
Frölunda did not initially announced Karvinen among their departures, but today changed that in a social media post.
"Thank you for everything, Michelle Karvinen!" Frölunda posted in a translated social media post. "After three seasons with Frölunda HC, with both SDHL promotion and SM gold, Michelle Karvinen is moving forward in her career - next up is the PWHL draft. Thank you for your efforts at Frölunda HC and best of luck in the future, Michelle!"
Karvinen became Finland's all-time leading scorer captaining the Finns to bronze at the recent IIHF World Championships.
The 34-year-old is a three-time World Championship All-Star. She was also named Best Forward at the 2014 Olympic Games.
