The Montreal Victoire and Boston Fleet continue to go toe to toe and win for win at the top of the PWHL standings.
The Montréal Victoire won in regulation yet again, and now have points in 13 straight games, continuing to extend their PWHL record streak.
Tuesday they beat the Seattle Torrent 4-1 on home ice after a flurry of scoring in the second period.
Montreal’s Natálie Mlýnková opened the scoring 2:28 into the period followed 90 seconds later by Laura Stacey.
Theresa Schafzahl continued her strong play following a trade from Boston getting the Seattle Torrent on the board just shy of the midway point of the game putting away a rebound off a Hilary Knight attempt.
Only minutes later, Skylar Irving scored to reclaim Montreal’s two goal lead.
Then, with time winding down in the third, Shiann Darkangelo scored into the empty net to seal Montreal’s win.
Ann-Renee Desbiens made 24 saves in the win, and picked up an assist. It was the second straight game a Montreal netminder recorded a point after Sandra Abstreiter recorded a helper on the weekend.
Frankel’s Streak Ends, But Boston Keeps Winning
The Boston Fleet picked up a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Goldeneyes in Edmonton, and although Aerin Frankel’s shutout streak ended in the third period after three consecutive shutouts, not allowing a goal for a total of 2:36.45, she picked up her 17th win of the season, which was another new PWHL record.
In front of 10,794 fans at Rogers Place in Edmonton, newly acquired Jessie Eldridge scored twice for the Flewt, while Abby Newhook had three helpers to lead Boston offensively.
Megan Keller, Susanna Tapani, and Jamie Lee Rattray had the other Boston goals while it was Sophie Jaques who scored to snap Frankel’s streak for Vancouver.
“It has been a lot of fun. I'm just glad I don't have to play this team anymore; they've had success for a reason,” said Eldridge of joining Boston and getting the job win. “You can tell how bought in everyone has been, but even tonight getting five [goals] is really hard in this league. The amount of pride everyone took in trying to protect the zero shows there's a lot of character in our room. We're excited to keep it going.”
