PWHL Ottawa believes they have one of the league's next stars in Gabbie Hughes, who is approaching the inaugural season with excitement.
If you hear the buzz surrounding forward Gabbie Hughes out of PWHL Ottawa, the team believes they have a star in the making. Hughes was one of six players PWHL Ottawa signed to a three-year contract leading up to the inaugural season.
Last year Hughes won gold as a member of USA's senior national team at the World Championships, and captains the University of Minnnesota-Duluth.
In Ottawa, the staff have created a culture already where young players like Hughes, who spent the past two decades playing hockey in Minnesota, feel at home, and as though they can thrive.
"Our culture so far has been completely amazing, it's just a free environment," said Hughes. "I feel like I can be myself, I can be who I want to be, and they want what's in my best interest. To have that just make you feel even more at home."
Watch Hughes talk about PWHL Ottawa, her coaches and teammates, and the banter between Canadian and USA national team players amidst the Rivalry Series.
