PWHL Ottawa continues adding players they believe are the cornerstones to long term success, signing defender Ashton Bell to a three-year contract.

Ottawa took Bell with their second pick, 8th overall in the PWHL Draft this year.

The offensive defender scored 33 points in 39 games this season while captaining Minnesota-Duluth. A smooth skating defender, Bell is a former WCHA Defender of the Year.

“We are thrilled to have Ashton join our team in Ottawa and be a key member of our defensive group and our organization," said Ottawa GM Mike Hirshfeld. "Her skating and offensive potential are incredibly exciting.”

“I am honoured and extremely grateful to have signed my first professional contract with PWHL Ottawa," said Bell. "I’d like to thank everyone who has supported the inaugural PWHL season, and every trailblazer who has paved the way for women’s hockey. I can’t wait for the team to get together and to start off the season. See you soon Ottawa fans!”

Bell is an Olympic gold medalist and has two World Championship gold medals playing for Team Canada's senior national team.

Ottawa has also signed Emerance Maschmeyer, Emily Clark, Brianne Jenner, and Gabbie Hughes to three-year contracts.
