Sirens acquire DeGeorge for their playoff push. Sceptres gain crucial roster flexibility as both teams vie for a playoff spot.

The Toronto Sceptres have traded forward Clair DeGeorge to the New York Sirens in exchange for what amounts to ‘future considerations.’

Forward Taylor Girard was injured Sunday against Minnesota during the PWHL Takeover Tour game in Denver and is expected to be placed on long-term injured reserve. DeGeorge gives the Sirens an immediate depth option to help fill that gap.

For Toronto, the move is about roster efficiency.

DeGeorge appeared in 17 games for the Sceptres this season but did not record a point, often seeing limited ice time. Her usage reflected her place on the depth chart — several appearances of just a few minutes, and multiple games where she did not get on the ice at all.

Both teams are in the thick of the hunt for the fourth and final playoff spot. New York will give DeGeorge every opportunity to fill a spot in their forward lines.

Moving DeGeorge opens a contract spot, and that flexibility is where the deal becomes meaningful for the Sceptres.

One likely option is signing reserve forward Lauren Messier, who has already appeared in five games this season and recorded a goal — a game-winner in Vancouver — while handling steady minutes in a depth role. Another possibility is bringing in Kristin Della Rovere on a 10-day run, giving the team a chance to evaluate another internal option down the stretch.

At this stage of the season, with every point carrying weight in the standings, roster spots are no longer a luxury. They are tools — and Toronto has chosen to turn one that wasn’t being used into flexibility it can. It’s a signal that the Sceptres are shoring things up for what’s ahead.
