Following a 2-1 win on the road over the Minnesota Frost, the Toronto Sceptres are now riding a six-game win streak as they continue their march toward the top of the PWHL's standings.
After Michela Cava opened the scoring for Minnesota on the power play, Toronto was able to get back into the action as Emma Maltais scored on a five-minute advantage for the Sceptes.
In the third, Jesse Compher continued to show why she's one of the PWHL's most improved players this season giving Toronto a 2-1 lead, which they'd hold until the final buzzer.
“I like that as a group they found a way to win a hockey game – a pretty sloppy game – finding a way to win," said Toronto head coach Troy Ryan. "We’ve been on the road here for a little while, so at this point in our trip to grind one out, it feels good.”
While the Toronto Sceptres continued their climb toward top spot in the league now sitting in lone possession of second place, the Minnesota Frost continued their slide in the wrong direction dropping to fourth.
With the Boston Fleet picking up two points in a 3-2 shootout win over New York in Buffalo, the Fleet leap frogged the Frost into third.
“We just gotta figure out a way to bury pucks," said Minnesota head coach Ken Klee after the loss. "We had lots of looks and we had lots of chances, obviously we made the one mistake where they made us pay for it. I liked our game; I liked our jump – we just have to figure out ways to finish."
Minnesota sits four points up on Ottawa, but the Ottawa Charge, who will look to chase down the Frost have a game in hand. The teams play each other three times in the final stretch of the season including back-to-back games against one another on March 7 in St. Louis, and March 11 in Ottawa.
