The Toronto Sceptres continued their strong return to PWHL action riding Raygan Kirk's 25-save performance to a 2-1 win in front of 13,264 fans at Pacific Coliseum over the Vancouver Goldeneyes.
In the opening frame, the Sceptres struck twice in less than a minute with Sara Hjalmarsson scoring in her second straight gam, followed by a goal from Lauren Messier, who the team added from their reserve roster only days ago. Claire Dalton assisted on both for the Sceptres.
After a scoreless second period, former Toronto forward Izzy Daniel struck back for Vancouver midway through the third period. Kirk however, shut the door for Toronto the rest of the way holding on for the 2-1 win.
“I think we’ve had really good energy coming back from the break, and it’s been a big reason that we’ve been able to get six points on the road," said Dalton of Toronto's back-to-back road wins. "It’s a testament to the work that the group did in-market, and how good the Olympians were while they were there. We started a roll and will keep going.”
It was a different result from Toronto's last visit to the West Coast when Vancouver shutout the Sceptres 5-0.
“I thought the game [at the end of January] was a little bit uncharacteristic of what we’re capable of doing as a team," said Toronto head coach Troy Ryan. "The game just got away from us—it was just sloppy all around. After that game, the Olympic break couldn’t come soon enough. Sometimes you just need to separate yourself from situations like that. As [Claire] Dalton said, just getting back together as a group, we’re in a much better place than we were a month ago.”
