The New York Sirens are playing good hockey this season, once they've started playing. It's become a pattern recently for the Sirens to get off to a slow start and then have to spend the rest of the game fighting back.

In Denver on Sunday, the Minnesota Frost got out to a 4-0 lead, which is how the game stayed for the first 52:34 of the game. That's when New York finally struck. In the end, the Sirens only fell 4-3.

The loss felt eerily familiar to New York's first game back from the Olympic break, a 4-1 loss to Montreal. That game New York found themselves down 3-0 only 10:07 into the game.

Across the season, New York sits sixth in the league with the most games scoring first, but they sit second in the league in winning percentage when they do score first with a 6-0-0-1 record. For the Sirens, who have been creeping backward in the standings, it's clear a quicker start is imperative.

On the opposite side of the puck, New York has allowed the third most first goals of the game against of any team, letting their opponents score first in 13 of 20 games this season.

Whether it's in the first period or not, New York is tied with last place Seattle for allowing the most first period goals of any team in the league with 20.

For a team who gets rolling once they've scored, New York's late starts are hurting their chances of making the playoffs.
