Carly Jackson and Raygan Kirk both got new pads, blockers, and trappers with Toronto Sceptres inspired themes. It was Christmas come early.
As Raygan Kirk put it, today was “goalie Christmas” for Toronto Sceptres goalies, as Carly Jackson and Kirk showed off their brand new Scepters-themed gear at practice.
“It was funny, we were in the locker room today talking about our helmets and we both felt like today our helmets were going to arrive,” said Jackson. “I made a Joke like what if they were here right now and as I was walking to the bathroom and Kirky (Raygan Kirk) was like oh my god they are here right now and I ran back to see these big boxes with our gear in them.
Both will be rocking Vaughn goalie pads and glove sets this season with their own unique designs.
Jackson inspired their new pads from Johnathan Quick's V4 pads he wore in the 2012-2013 season on the Kings' run to the Stanley Cup.
“I always liked the way he (Quick) played, I just think he’s so entertaining. I followed those playoffs the closest in my life, it was when I was a young goalie and I wanted to be like that,” said Jackson. “I always loved that Vaughn graphic and the way he did and the beautiful thing about being a pro now is you get to do everything you wanted to do when you were 12-years-old.”
On Jackson's pads and gloves, they incorporated the Sceptres word logo in place of the Vaughn name and added the blue surrounding the gold lines representing the colours of the Scepters.
On the back of Jackson's glove pocket is also the word Toronto spelt out in the same font as the Sceptres name.
While Jackson went with a white base for their pads, Kirk decided to take a page out of Kristen Campbell’s book designing her pads with a dark blue base for her set of SLR4s.
The front of the pads has Sceptres written over the bottom portion of the black ridge while the face has a black line in between two yellow lines. On the outside face of the pads, Kirk also has a large graphic of the Sceptres logo.
“I came up with the design and asked if they could add the logo to the side since they stitch everything but they were able to add that little detail which everybody has been a fan of and I really like it too, it’s a nice piece of detail on the side,” said Kirk.
Her Blocker and glove are similar with the addition of the Sceptres primary logo to the top and the word Toronto written on the black line.
The Toronto Sceptres begin their 2024-25 PWHL season November 30 against Boston.
