Three Important Announcements PWHL Fans Can Expect Prior To Training Camps

PWHL training camps open on November 12, with players hitting the ice a few days later. The league however, still has a number of critical announcements to come before that date. After more than a year of planning for season two, the PWHL has still had kinks to iron out including several venue changes that have delayed announcements.

With training camps rapidly approaching, here's a look at three key announcements PWHL fans can expect between now and November 12.

Most leagues have schedules out several months in advance. The PWHL has yet to have that luxury due to venue changes. This season is was moving the Toronto Sceptres to the Coca-Cola Coliseum, the Montreal Victoire to Place Bell, and the New York Sirens into another state altogether at New Jersey's Prudential Center. Couple that with the fact the league will likely want to announce all of their neutral site games at once, and delays have occurred. Originally the league was telling teams the regular season was slated to start on November 30 or December 1, but in more recent press conferences, league representatives have been more vague saying only that the season will begin prior to the New Year. The PWHL will certainly want to give fans at least a month to begin purchasing single game tickets, so the schedule announcement should be imminent. 

Fans finally got team names and logos this offseason, but the PWHL did not unveil jerseys at the same time. The league stated they wanted to have the physical jerseys in hand to show when this portion of the announcement was made. They didn't simply want to show images of mock jerseys. With all teams sporting generic jerseys last season, and new colors introduced to teams alonside their logos and names, jerseys are a highly anticipated release. The league also stated they plan to have replica jerseys available for purchase at the same time as they unveil the new uniforms. The league said they do not, however, expect to have authentic jerseys available for purchase in the near future. What's the timeline? The PWHL has stated fans can expect jerseys to be revealed at the end of October, or early November.

At the team level, camp rosters have been set for more than a month. The league however has not released these details, and individual teams have stated that they are not permitted to share their invitations, yet. Still, dozens of invites have already become public knowledge. The delay in releasing these lists is almost certainly related to accuracy. Following some invitations being accepted and extended earlier in the offseason, many players have chosen to sign in Europe and China who were previously headed to PWHL camps. Some of those players have expressed they intend to stay in their home nations. PWHL teams have until October 10 to submit their full and final camp rosters ahead of camps opening November 12. When the league releases full camp rosters, it will give fans the first real chance to begin debating how they think rosters should look on opening day. It's unlikely the PWHL will release these until much closer to the opening of training camps, but that date is rapidly approaching.
