Toronto has signed Canadian national team member and Ohio State grad Emma Maltais to a three-year deal.
Canadian national team member and recent NCAA grad Emma Maltais has signed a three-year contract to play for PWHL Toronto.
Toronto secured the rights to the forward after selecting her in the second round, 11th overall in the inaugural PWHL Draft.
“Emma brings a lot of elements we are looking for in building our identity in Toronto," said Toronto general manager Gina Kingsbury. "We are excited for the opportunity to have her a part of the upcoming season and building our Toronto franchise.”
Maltais, 23, hails from Burlington, Ontario and has won Olympic gold and two World Championship golds with Canada, also collecting a silver this spring with Canada.
"I’m incredibly excited to have signed my first professional contract with Toronto," said Maltais. "I’ve dreamed for an opportunity like this since I was a little girl, and I cannot wait to get the training camp going!”
Last season with Ohio State, Maltais scored 48 points in 39 games. She's yet to step up as a key offensive contributor with Canada, but in a checking line and shutdown role, Maltais has been impactful.
