With the release of the full PWHL schedule, it’s time now for Sceptre fans to circle their calendar for these notable contests.
Now that the schedule is released, PWHL teams (and fans) can finally begin planning their winter schedules and look forward to some meaningful games in the second full season.
Toronto GM Gina Kingsbury said, “We are excited to share the schedule ahead of the 2024-25 season and for fans to mark their favourite matchups. The ice is in at Cola-Cola Coliseum, and we cannot wait to be back on November 30th to kick off the second season of the PWHL and our quest for the Walter Cup."
After finishing first last season, the Sceptres bowed out in the semi-finals to the eventual Walter Cup Champion Minnesota Frost. On December 7, they’ll get a chance to exact a measure of revenge against Minnesota in what will definitely be an early season highlight.
Playing at their new home, the Coca-Cola Coliseum, the Sceptres will have a strong fan base behind them, bringing a lot more energy to the on-ice competition. Of course, the season opener at home on November 30, an afternoon game, will be a celebration and much-anticipated matchup versus the Cup finalist Boston Fleet, who always brought their best against Toronto in season one. This game will also feature draft picks Hannah Bilka from Ohio State and Sydney Bard from Colgate against St. Lawrence’s Julia Gosling and Northeastern’s Megan Carter.
Toronto’s early season includes more home than away games, due to the need for their home rink to host the Toronto International Boat Show in January. During the month, the team will visit Montréal for the first time in the season at Place Bell on January 30.Another date to circle is New Year’s Eve, when the Ottawa Charge visit Toronto. The two teams also meet in the Sceptres’ final game of the regular season on May 3.
Last season, Ottawa was eliminated in the last game of their season against Toronto. It’s not known when the leading scorer and league MVP Natalie Spooner will be back with the team, but most observers have calculated another two to three months of rehab for the forward, meanng we might see her in the new year in a potential offsite game against the Montréal Victoire. That game is Wednesday, January 8th, and the venue is listed as ‘TBD.’ Training camps begin on November 12, and all six teams will participate in a mini-camp (three teams in Toronto and three in Montreal) from November 19-22. The latter will feature pre-season games and the first chance for fans to see teams in action.
