The Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs have one of the most storied rivalries in sports. That rivalry raged between their American League affiliates this weekend, as the Laval Rocket and Toronto Maple Leafs faced on back-to-back nights this weekend.
Plenty of fireworks were on display, but there was no clear-cut winner as the clubs traded lopsided wins and embarrassing losses.
On Friday night Logan Shaw recorded a hat-trick and Dennis Hildeby stopped 31 of 32 shots as the Marlies mowed over the Rocket 6-1. Assistant Captain Mitchell Stephens scored the lone goal for Laval in the loss.
Not to go down without a fight in the weekend series, the Rocket put up an equally explosive outing on Saturday, unloading an offensive barrage on the Baby Buds with a one-sided 7-1 victory.
Logan Mailloux scored a goal and added two assists for Laval, with goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo stopping 28 of 29 shots. The Rocket chased Keith Petruzzelli with three goals on 12 shots in the first period, with Hildeby allowing four goals on just 19 shots.
The rivals will face off four more times this season, with back-to-back contests on February 23rd and 24th, a one-off on March 17th and their final meeting of the year on March 24th.
