Philipp Grubauer has cleared waivers and will be assigned to the Seattle Kraken's AHL affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Grubauer is in year four of a six-year deal he signed in July 2021 that pays him $5.9 million per year.
The 33-year-old has had a rough season for the Kraken, he has a 5-15-1 record with a .866 SP and 3.76 GAA. He has not recorded a save percentage over .900 since he joined Seattle.
The Rosenheim, GER., native last appeared in the AHL and was named to the All-Star Game in 2015 as a member of the Hershey Bears.
A fourth round selection of the Washington Capitals in 2010, Grubauer is expected to play games for Coachella Valley as he works to get his game back.
The Firebirds currently sit second in the AHL's Pacific Division and are looking to make a third straight Calder Cup Finals appearance.
Grubauer's first opportunity to suit up for Coachella Valley comes this weekend as the team plays back-to-back on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 against the Texas Stars.
