Askarov is 1-0-1 with a .927 SP and 1.96 GAA in his first two games with the Sharks

The San Jose Sharks announced they have recalled goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from their AHL affiliate San Jose Barracuda.

Askarov was sent back to the AHL on Nov. 26 after playing his first two games for the Sharks where he posted a 1-0-1 record with a .927 SP and 1.96 GAA.

The 22-year-old has continued his AHL dominance this season with a 9-4-2 record, 2.00 GAA, three shutouts and .938 SP.

Vitek Vanecek was injured after being hit by the puck while sitting on the bench in San Jose's game against the Winnipeg Jets last night.

The Hockey News' Max Miller will provide updates from Sharks practice but this call-up likely signals that Askarov will at least serve as back-up for San Jose's game against the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow.

The Omsk, RUS., native was acquired from the Nashville Predators in August along with Nolan Burke and a third round pick in exchange for David Edstrom, Magnus Chrona, and a first round pick
