
Former Bridgeport Islanders forward Tyce Thompson has signed a one-year contract with the KHL's Barys Astana, the team announced Wednesday.
Thompson notched eight goals, 21 points, and 108 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Islanders last season.
The 26-year-old has 26 goals and 85 points in 214 career AHL games and one assist in 11 career NHL games, all with the New Jersey Devils.
A fourth round selection of the Devils in 2019, Thompson was acquired by the Islanders organization in a November 2023 trade, he re-signed with the team in July 2024.
Son of former Bridgeport head coach Brent Thompson and brother of Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson, Tyce had 38 goals and 94 points in 101 career NCAA games with Providence College. He served as team captain and was named to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team in the 2020-21 season before turning pro.
Per Artur Khairullin, Thompson will earn 30 million rubles or roughly $373,000 USD on his contract, more than doubling his reported AHL salary from last season.
He joins Jake Massie, Mike Vecchione, and former teammate Reilly Walsh as former AHL players who have joined Barys Astana this off-season.
