Canadian center Chris Tierney, 30, has signed a one-year contract with Dinamo Minsk, the Belarus-based KHL club announced on social media on Monday.
A native of Keswick, Ontario, Tierney played junior hockey for the OHL’s London Knights, where he participated in three straight Memorial Cup tournaments and served as team captain his final season, 2013-14.
Taken in the second round, 55th overall, by the San Jose Sharks in 2012, Tierney played in 649 NHL regular-season games between 2014 and 2024 with the Sharks, Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils, recording 248 points and 135 penalty minutes. He also played in 40 playoff games, all with San Jose, where he recorded 12 additional points and was a member of the 2016 team that advanced to the Stanley Cup final.
Last season, Tierney had 12 points in 52 games for New Jersey.
This is Tierney’s first contract to play overseas. In Minsk, he joins other former NHLers Dillon Dubé, Xavier Ouellet, Nicholas Meloche, Alexander Volkov and Jordan Gross. He also joins 20-year-old Utah HC prospect Vadim Moroz and a pair of Carolina Hurricanes prospects: goaltender Yegor Velmakin and forward Nikita Guslitsov.
As of Monday, the team had played four KHL regular-season games, winning three of them. Minsk’s next game is Thursday at home to Kunlun Red Star.
