It should be quite a busy summer for the New Jersey Devils. General manager Tom Fitzgerald was very transparent following the Devils' early playoff exit that roster changes are on the way. An obvious area where the Devils should be aiming to improve is their bottom six.
Due to this, one pending unrestricted free agent who the Devils should seriously consider making a real run at if he is available on July 1 is Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter.
Suter, 28, would immediately provide the Devils with a notable boost at the third-line center spot if signed, which is a need. However, due to his ability to play both down the middle and on the wing, he could fit in multiple spots in the Devils' top nine. Furthermore, he is also known for being a dependable two-way forward, so he would work on both New Jersey's power play and the penalty kill.
Suter is coming off an impressive 2024-25 season, which undoubtedly adds to his appeal. In 81 games this campaign with Vancouver, he set new career highs with 25 goals and 46 points. With numbers like these, he would also give the Devils some much-needed secondary scoring.
Given how well Suter performed for the Canucks this season, it would not be surprising if they worked hard to re-sign him. However, if they fail in their efforts and Suter hits the market, the Devils would be wise to pursue the five-year NHL veteran.
