Akil Thomas scored his first NHL goal as the Los Angeles Kings beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 on Thursday night.
Adrian Kempe scored the other goal for the Kings and David Rittich made 15 saves for his 12th win of the season.
The Sharks struggled to generate offense all night. The Kings' 1-3-1 neutral zone forecheck was effective and didn't allow the Sharks to get speed into the offensive zone. Thomas becomes the 125th different player to score their first NHL goal against the San Jose Sharks in NHL history.
Jack Studnicka re-joined the Sharks for his first game since January 4th. Tonight was his 100th career NHL game.
Adrian Kempe flew past the Sharks' defense and scored his 25th goal on the breakaway.
Akil Thomas scored his first NHL goal just 18 seconds after the Kings grabbed the lead.
Klim Kostin scores his 8th goal of the season on the powerplay.
