Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports - BREAKING: Sharks Sign College Star Collin Graf

The San Jose Sharks have signed college-free agent Collin Graf in a shock move that will immediately see the Quinnipiac forward join the NHL.

Graf led Quinnipiac in scoring with 49 points (22 goals, 27 assists) and was the team's alternate captain.

"Graf has excelled at the collegiate level, finishing as a Hobey Baker Top-10 finalist for the last two seasons," Grier said in a press release. "His on-ice awareness allows him to process the game at a high level, and is a unique player with a quality 200-foot game who excels in the offensive zone. We are excited to have him join the organization."

According to Pierre LeBrun, Graf met with six NHL teams but narrowed down his decision to the Sharks.

Graf's contract is a three-year entry-level contract, but the first year is effective today. Graf is expected to join the NHL right away.

Graf scored the game-tying goal in the NCAA's National Championship last season before the Bobcats won in overtime. His talent had many teams interested in acquiring the 21-year-old.
