The Dallas Stars cleared cap space on Thursday by trading Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken.
In return, Dallas gets a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick from Seattle.
Marchment, 30, has one year left on his four-year contract with a $4.5-million cap hit.
The Stars, which re-signed pending UFA Matt Duchene to a four-year contract worth $4.5 million annually on Thursday, now have $4.955 million in projected cap space, according to PuckPedia. They have six pending UFAs, including captain Jamie Benn, center Mikael Granlund, veteran Evgenii Dadnov and defenseman Cody Ceci. They also have two RFAs: Mavrik Bourque and Nils Lundkvist.

The Kraken, meanwhile, get a left winger who scored 22 goals and 25 assists for 47 points in 62 games. In 2023-24, he had 22 goals and 53 points. The Stars signed Marchment in 2022 after he had 47 points in 54 games for the Florida Panthers.
At 6-foot-5 and 212 pounds, Marchment becomes the tallest forward on the Kraken. He also helps Seattle replenish some of its depth after trading Oliver Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde to the Tampa Bay Lightning at the trade deadline.
As for the upcoming draft, Seattle has six picks, including two second-rounders, while the Stars also have six picks, with their first selection coming in the third round.
