Seattle Kraken left winger Jared McCann was the subject of trade conjecture last month. It was reported that the Kraken were open to the possibility of moving the 29-year-old McCann.
Since the Kraken's inception in 2021-22, McCann has led them in scoring every season. That includes three seasons with 60-plus points, including a career-best 40-goal, 70-point performance in 2022-23.
According to Seattle Hockey Insider, the New Jersey Devils were at least one team to express an interest in McCann. He also claimed the Montreal Canadiens were keeping tabs on the versatile forward, who can play wing or center.
Seattle Hockey Insider claimed the Kraken informed the Devils they weren't moving McCann. PuckPedia indicates that he's signed through 2026-27 with a team-friendly average annual value of $5 million and a 10-team no-trade list.
The trade talk about McCann could increase if the Kraken get off to a poor start to this season, but the return wouldn't be cheap.
Why The Seattle Kraken Should Consider Trading Top Winger McCann
Some uncertainty about Jared McCann's future with the Seattle Kraken surfaced in summer speculation and trade rumors.
Turning to the Los Angeles Kings, they made several moves involving their defense corps this summer.
They lost Vladislav Gavrikov to the New York Rangers via free agency on July 1 and traded Jordan Spence to the Ottawa Senators. They turned to the UFA market to replace those two, adding veterans Cody Ceci and Brian Dumoulin.
The Hockey News' Jesse Courville-Lynch cited Michael Russo of The Athletic claiming the Kings also weighed the possibility of moving Brandt Clarke.
Russo made those remarks during his Aug. 19 appearance on the DFO Rundown. He felt there were points during this off-season when the Kings considered moving the 22-year-old Clarke. However, Russo felt that new GM Ken Holland wanted to watch his performance this season before entertaining such a move.
Clarke is in the final season of his entry-level contract. The 22-year-old blueliner had 33 points in 78 games last season. Trading him could prove a hasty decision if he should go on to blossom elsewhere.
