Trade rumors continue to swirl around Travis Konecny despite the Philadelphia Flyers' recent improvement, while the Columbus Blue Jackets' early-season struggles could resurrect some of the trade speculation that dogged them during the off-season.
Earlier this week, a report by Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco claimed team sources said the Philadelphia Flyers might consider asking Travis Konecny to waive his no-movement clause if their season continued to worsen.
After going winless in their first nine games (0-6-3), the Flyers have reeled off three straight wins. However, Di Marco still suggested that Konecny could become a trade candidate even if things improve.
On Tuesday, Di Marco reported that the Flyers need to address their logjam of wingers. He noted that they’ve received more interest in Owen Tippett from around the league than for Konecny, probably because of the latter’s NMC.
However, Konecny is considered the better all-around player and could attract interest from teams seeking a top-tier forward.
However, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic doesn’t see the Flyers peddling Konecny. He considers it "incredibly unlikely" they’ll part with the 29-year-old winger, citing his contract, commitment to the Flyers, and the fact he’s been their leading scorer for five of the past six seasons.
Di Marco has a point that the Flyers are overstocked with wingers and using one as trade bait to add depth at center. However, Konecny’s NMC gives him full control, and unless he decides it's time to move on, he'll remain a Flyer.
Slow Start Sparking Rumors In Columbus
Meanwhile, in Columbus, a discouraging 3-5-0 start has raised concerns about whether the Blue Jackets can address their issues before the season slips away.
Blue Jackets beat writer Aaron Portzline of The Athletic noted the Blue Jackets' recent loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and former Jackets winger Kirill Marchenko, whose refusal to sign a contract extension this summer punched his ticket to Toronto.
Portzline wondered if there were other players in the Blue Jackets' dressing room willing to follow Marchenko out of town. If they don't recover soon, it could resurrect the Zach Werenski trade rumors.
TSN's Pierre LeBrun tweeted that the Blue Jackets were getting some calls about winger Dmitri Voronkov. He's not saying that the 26-year-old winger will be traded, but he believes management is listening to offers.
Voronkov is in the final season of a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4.175 million. He's slated to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights next summer and will be UFA-eligible in July 2028.
