The Philadelphia Flyers will be moving to a new arena in 2030 and the franchise has unveiled a visual plan for its design in collaboration with the NBA and WNBA .
The Philadelphia Flyers have given fans an early look at their new home.
The Flyers and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers revealed renderings on Tuesday of a proposed new arena set to open in 2030. This new arena will host the Flyers, the 76ers, and Philadelphia's WNBA team, which has been confirmed as an expansion franchise, with its inaugural season in the league coming the same year as the arena's opening.
"Philly fans deserve the best arena in the world, and we are excited to partner with Comcast to deliver just that, co-founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, Josh Harris, said in a statement. "This privately funded arena will be the home to moments and memories that define this city for generations."
Comcast owns the naming rights to the arena, which will be named at a later date.
This is the largest fully privately funded project in Philadelphia's history. It's anticipated that the arena will create around 15,000 new jobs and generate about $6 billion in economic activity over the coming decade.
"This is a new era for Philadelphia sports," the chairman of Comcast Corporation, Brian Roberts, said. "To build our future where Ed Snider and the Spectrum made history makes this project truly special. Working with HBSE, we are creating a world-class experience worthy of Philadelphia’s incredible fans."
In additon to this initial reveal, a website with additional renderings for the what the arena is projected to look like has been launched, called ThePhillyArena.com. The website mentions that 76ers and Flyers season ticket holders will have the opportunity to participate in a future seat selection process for the new arena.
Currently, the Flyers call the Xfinity Mobile Arena home. It's been Philadelphia's home in the NHL and NBA since 1996, previously named the Wells Fargo Center, Wachovia Center and First Union Center.
