While speaking to reporters on April 10, Boston Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco announced that defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward Mark Kastelic will be out for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
McAvoy has not played since suffering an infection and AC joint injury in his right shoulder during the 4 Nations Face-Off back in February. Kastelic, on the other hand, has not played since March 20 against the Vegas Golden Knights due to an upper-body injury.
McAvoy, 27, appeared in 50 games this season for the Bruins, posting seven goals, 23 points, 81 blocks, 89 hits, and an even plus/minus rating. As for Kastelic, he scored five goals and set new career highs with nine assists, 14 points, 106 penalty minutes, and 218 hits in 61 games this campaign.
With the Bruins being eliminated from playoff contention, there was no reason for the Original Six club to rush McAvoy and Kastelic back. Both players will now focus on getting healthy for the 2025-26 season from here.
