The Boston Bruins are entering the offseason in an excellent position. They have just under $21 million of cap space and will surely do some spending. GM Don Sweeney has made it clear that he wants to improve the club's scoring, and now he has the freedom to do so.
This year's free-agent market could have several notable scoring wingers available, so the Bruins will have their options. One player they could make a serious pitch to is Detroit Red Wings superstar Patrick Kane.
Before Kane signed with the Red Wings in 2023-24, the Bruins were reportedly among the clubs with interest. In late November, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said the Bruins "poked around" on the future Hall of Famer.

The Bruins may end up getting another crack at signing Kane, too. NHL insider Pierre LeBrun recently wrote that he believes Kane will hit the free-agent market on July 1. If LeBrun's correct, it is hard to believe that the Bruins wouldn't at least consider targeting Kane again.
The Bruins desperately need scoring, which will be even more true if Jake DeBrusk leaves through free agency. At this time, his future in Boston is far from set in stone.

If the Bruins landed Kane, he would be a massive addition to their top six. He showed last season that he still has point-per-game potential. He would create some real magic with superstars David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand.
We will need to wait and see what happens with Kane from here, but Boston is a club to watch if No. 88 hits the market.
