The Boston Bruins have several players who can hit the free-agent on July 1. Matt Grzelcyk is one of them, and there's a real feeling that he won't be back. The Massachusetts native had a tough 2023-24 season and dramatically fell down the team's depth chart due to the emergence of Mason Lohrei and Parker Wotherspoon.
If the Bruins elect to move on from Grzelcyk, there should be interest in his services, even after his down year. Keep in mind, he spent multiple seasons on the Bruins' top pairing with Charlie McAvoy. In addition, before his underwhelming 2023-24 campaign, he had at least 20 points in four straight seasons.
Matt GrzelcykWhen looking at potential free-agent destinations for Grzelcyk, the Chicago Blackhawks stand out as a solid choice for the 2012 third-round pick.
It is no secret that the Blackhawks are expected to be busy this offseason. While they are still rebuilding, they are likely to bring in some veteran talent that can help them. Grzelcyk would give them just that.
When looking at the Blackhawks' blueline, it is not a secret that their left side could use a boost. If they signed Grzelcyk, he would improve their top four and be a candidate for both of their special-team units because of his two-way play.
