During the Boston Bruins' poor 3-0 loss to the Washington Capitals, defenseman Matt Grzelcyk received a five-minute major and game misconduct for spearing forward Max Pacioretty. The event occurred at the 18:08 mark of the first period.

Following the play, it was apparent that Grzelcyk would receive discipline of some kind from NHL Player Safety. Now, the Massachusetts native has gotten just that.

NHL Player Safety has fined Grzelcyk $5,000 for spearing, which is the maximum allowable under the CBA.

While paying a fine is never a good thing, Grzelcyk should feel fortunate that he avoided a suspension. Due to this, he will not need to miss any game action for the Bruins as they look to bounce back from their poor showing against the Capitals.

Grzelcyk, 30, has appeared in 38 games this season with the Bruins, where he has two goals, seven points, and a plus-6 rating.
