The Boston Bruins are certainly hoping to put together a better season in 2025-26 after their nightmare 2024-25 campaign. For this to occur, one of the many things they will need is for some of their young players to hit new levels.

The Bruins are entering the 2025-26 season with plenty of promising breakout candidates to watch, like Fraser Minten, Matt Poitras, Marat Khusnutdinov, and Fabian Lysell.

However, in a recent article for NHL.com, writer Troy Perlowitz went with a Bruins defenseman as the club's top fantasy hockey breakout candidate - Mason Lohrei. Perlowitz argued that Lohrei should hit offensive career highs in 2025-26, just like he did this past season with the Original Six club.

When noting that Lohrei is still only entering his third NHL season and has just 118 career games on his resume, it is hard not to feel optimistic about him taking another step forward this upcoming season. He is very much still adjusting his game to the NHL level and took a nice step in the right direction this past season with his offense. In 77 games on the year, he recorded five goals, 28 assists, and 33 points. However, he also struggled at times defensively, which is a pretty common theme for young blueliners.

If Lohrei produces more offensively and becomes more dependable defensively, it would be significant for a Bruins club that is looking to get back into the playoffs. There is no question that the 2020 second-round pick has good upside, and it will be fascinating to see if he can hit a new level in 2025-26 from here.
