At the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins brought back Jakub Lauko in the trade that sent Justin Brazeau to the Minnesota Wild. This was after the Bruins just traded Lauko to Minnesota in June of last year.

There was naturally some excitement about Lauko's return to the Bruins, as he was a fan favorite during his first stint with the team because of his tenacity and high-energy style of play. Overall, the 25-year-old provided just that to the Bruins again following the move, posting two goals, five points, 20 penalty minutes, and 50 hits in 18 games. This included three points in the Bruins' final four games of the season.

Now, the Bruins have another decision to make with Lauko, as he is a pending restricted free agent. Thus, the Bruins must decide whether he is a player they want to re-sign or let walk.

There is undoubtedly a strong case to be made to keep Lauko around. His speed and grit make him a solid part of the Bruins' bottom six, and they missed him while he was with the Wild. In addition, when noting that he is still only 25 years old, he is just entering his prime and still has room for growth.

However, at the same time, the Bruins' bottom six is definitely a bit packed. In addition, it would be understandable if the Bruins wanted to give their younger players a shot in the bottom six next season, especially with how this campaign went.

Nevertheless, if Lauko is willing to stick around at a cheap price, the Bruins will certainly need to consider it. Time will tell what happens on that front from here.
