During the 2022 NHL off-season, the Boston Bruins signed defenseman Connor Carrick to a one-year, two-way contract. The Original Six club brought Carrick in to have more experienced defensive depth down in the AHL with the Providence Bruins.
Carrick proved to be an important part of Providence's defensive group in 2022-23. In 63 games with the AHL squad, he posted six goals, 44 points, 52 penalty minutes, and a plus-15 rating. He also made one appearance with Boston at the end of the season, posting one assist, two shots, and a plus-3 rating in 16:54 of ice time. This is the last time Carrick played a regular-season game at the NHL level.
After moving on from the Bruins during the 2023 NHL off-season, Carrick spent each of the last two seasons solely in the AHL. In 133 games split between the Coachella Valley Firebirds and Bakersfield Condors over that span, he posted 27 goals, 75 points, and a plus-17 rating.
Now, Carrick is moving away from the AHL and heading overseas. HC Lugano of the Swiss National League has signed the former Bruins blueliner to a two-year contract, which kicks in during the 2025-26 season.
Carrick should now be a key piece on HC Lugano's blueline moving forward. The 31-year-old will give them a defenseman with plenty of NHL experience, and it will be intriguing to see how much of a difference-maker he is for them from here.
