This Bruins forward is making his case for an extension.
Before the start of the season, the Boston Bruins signed Danton Heinen to a PTO. From there, he stayed with the team unsigned for almost a whole month before getting his current one-year, $775,000 deal on Oct. 30.
Heinen, 28, worked incredibly hard to earn a deal and officially start his second stint with the Bruins. Now, as we inch closer to the end of the regular season, it is apparent that the Bruins made the right call bringing him back.
Heinen has been a magnificent bargain signing for the Bruins. He has found a surprising home in the Bruins' top six, and he has been quite impactful offensively. In 66 games on the campaign, he has 15 goals, 30 points, and a plus-10 rating. That is strong production from a player who had to secure a contract through a successful PTO.
What's more encouraging about Heinen's play is that it has improved as the season has gone on. The 2014 fourth-round pick has 11 points over his last 18 games and is not showing any signs of slowing down.
With all of this, there's no question that Heinen is making a case for an extension. He's been a strong fit in Jim Montgomery's system, and if he's willing to stick around at a reasonable price, Boston should get a deal done with him.
