It has not been a great year for the Boston Bruins. At the time of this writing, they currently do not hold a playoff spot. While they only trail the Detroit Red Wings by one point for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, they have played more games than them and every other playoff-hopeful club. Thus, they in a tough position right now.
Now that the 4 Nations Face-Off break is coming to an end, it is winning time for the Bruins. If they continue to struggle to win consistently, it will increase the odds of them being sellers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline, which is March 7.
However, the Bruins' path to the playoffs has gotten more challenging. After being hospitalized due to an infection from a right shoulder injury, star defenseman Charlie McAvoy will be missing time. With No. 73 being their best blueliner, there is no question that his absence will be felt. This is especially so with Hampus Lindholm, Boston's No. 2 defender, also being injured.
