The Boston Bruins are very fortunate to have this forward on their roster.
After recovering from injury, Matthew Poitras made his season debut for the Boston Bruins yesterday (Oct. 12) against the Los Angeles Kings. The 20-year-old forward stood out big time in the contest, as he was excellent with the puck and made smart plays throughout it. However, his best play of the night came when he started the sequence that led to David Pastrnak's overtime winner.
Since the 2023 NHL pre-season, Poitras has displayed that he has the potential to blossom into an incredibly impactful NHL player. With the Bruins needing more help down the middle, having a skilled forward with tremendous upside like Poitras is something they should feel incredibly fortunate about. This is especially so when noting that Poitras was a gem found in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
Before getting injured last season, Poitras was already a solid contributor to the Bruins' offense. In 33 games, the 5-foot-11 forward had five goals, 15 points, and a plus-4 rating. Now that he is fully healthy and continuing to gain more NHL experience, it will be a blast to see what he can do in 2024-25.
If Poitras builds off his strong season debut, he could make a real case for himself to play top-six minutes. No matter what happens on that front, it is apparent that the Bruins have something extraordinary in Poitras.
