One of the Boston Bruins' top objectives this offseason will be to improve their forward group. While adding a first-line center is priority No. 1, they would also benefit by improving their middle six.
The Bruins have several free-agent forwards like Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, Pat Maroon, and James van Riemsdyk. Due to this, they will likely browse the market for at least one impactful middle-six winger.
One specific player who the Bruins should keep on their radar this summer is David Perron. While the veteran winger has expressed his desire to re-sign with the Detroit Red Wings, he is still without a new deal. July 1 is rapidly approaching.
If Perron hits the market, he would be an excellent player for the Bruins to bring in. While the Quebec native is 36 years old, he is still an effective player at this stage of his career. In 76 games this season with the Red Wings, he had 17 goals, 47 points, and 111 hits. The Bruins could use a player who provides solid secondary production and grit like him.
If the Bruins signed Perron, he would have the potential to be a good fit on either their second or third line. In addition, he would provide them with another option for their power play because of his playmaking ability.
Perron is also known for his great leadership, which is a nice bonus. In addition, he has plenty of playoff experience, having played in 104 career postseason games. He also, of course, was on the St. Louis Blues when they defeated the Bruins in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.
