The Boston Bruins have brought in several new players this off-season as they look to improve their roster. One of their newcomers is forward Viktor Arvidsson, as they acquired the veteran winger from the Edmonton Oilers on July 1 in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick.
The Oilers needed to move on from Arvidsson, as they were dealing with significant salary cap trouble. He also struggled to find his fit with the Oilers, so one could argue that he needed this change of scenery as well.
After joining the Oilers this past off-season, Arvidsson posted 15 goals and 27 points in 67 contests. While it was a tough year for the 32-year-old's standards, he has the potential to be a sneaky good addition to the Bruins' roster.
Before this past season, Arvidsson has shown throughout his career that he can be an impactful offensive contributor. He has scored at least 20 goals five times during his 11-year career, with the last time being in 2022-23 when he had 26 in 77 games with the Los Angeles Kings. Thus, there is reason to believe that he could get his offense back up a bit in Boston. This is especially so if he gets top-six and power-play time with the Bruins, which is likely when looking at Boston's current group.
Ultimately, there is very little risk in the Bruins bringing in Arvidsson. He is only signed until the end of next season, so if things don't work out, they can simply move on from him next off-season. However, when looking at his past success, fans should feel some optimism about him joining the Original Six club. The potential for him to record 45 to 50 points is there, as he has done that five times during his career as well. Keep in mind, he had 59 points just back in 2022-23 with LA.
Nevertheless, it is going to be very interesting to see how much of an impact Arvidsson can make for the Bruins next season. If he regains some of his previous scoring touch, he would be a good addition to a Bruins club that desperately needs more offense.
