The Boston Bruins are taking a chance on a player who has dominated the AHL over the last few seasons.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Bruins have signed forward Matej Blumel to a one-year, $875,000 contract. In addition, Dreger shared that Blumel's contract is a one-way deal.
With the Bruins in the middle of a retool, Blumel is exactly the kind of player that they should be taking a shot on. The 6-foot winger thrived in the AHL in each of the last two seasons with the Texas Stars. During the 2023-24 season, he recorded 31 goals and 62 points in 72 games. He then followed that up with 39 goals and 72 points in 67 contests this past campaign with the AHL squad.
Blumel has shown good promise at the AHL level, and he will now look to crack the Bruins' roster after earning this contract from here. With the Bruins needing help on the wing, he certainly could make a real case for himself to be on their opening night roster with a strong training camp.
In 13 career NHL games over two seasons, Blumel has scored two goals.
