The Boston Bruins have selected defenseman Liam Pettersson with the 61st overall pick of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

Pettersson, 18, is a 6-foot-2, left-shot defenseman who has been developing his game in Sweden. He spent this season with the Vaxjo Lakers, where he primarily played on their J20 squad. In 39 games with their J20 roster, he posted six goals, 15 assists, and 21 points in 39 games. He also played in five games with Vaxjo's SHL squad, where he was held off the scoresheet.

Pettersson has the tools to blossom into an NHL defenseman later down the road. He has been praised for his passing and puck-moving ability, and there is no question that the Bruins could use more skilled blueliners on their roster. Thus, bringing in an intriguing prospect like Pettersson makes sense for the Original Six club.

Pettersson will need to work on his defensive game before making the jump to the NHL level. However, the offensive side of his game undoubtedly stands out right now, so it is understandable that the Bruins are taking a shot on him.

Pettersson will now look to continue to improve his game in Sweden from here. The potential for him to become a solid NHLer in the future is certainly there, and it will be fascinating to see how much of an impact he makes with the Bruins later down the road.
