The Bruins made a smart decision by giving this Providence forward an NHL contract.
The Boston Bruins made a small but interesting move last night, signing Justin Brazeau to a two-year, two-way NHL contract. This signing means that the 6-foot-5 winger is now permitted to be recalled to the Bruins' NHL roster if the club wishes to.
When looking at how Brazeau has played this season with the Providence Bruins, this really was a no-brainer for Boston. In 49 games this season with the AHL squad, he has a career-high 18 goals to go along with 37 points.
Brazeau, 26, has improved with each season, too. In 2021-22, when he joined Providence, he had 15 goals and 31 points in 51 games. He then followed that up with 16 goals and 45 points in 67 games last season. Needless to say, he has been heading in the right direction with his development and could be a real option for the Bruins' bottom six because of it.
With Oskar Steen being placed on waivers, a spot is now available on the Bruins' roster. When noting that Brazeau signed his deal shortly after this news, it is fair to wonder if a recall is heading his way.
The Bruins' bottom six has been struggling as of late, so bringing up a heavy-hitting forward with size and skill like Brazeau could be a good idea. We will need to wait and see if he gets recalled from here, but getting him signed to an NHL contract was the right move for Boston.
