Jaromir Jagr received some advice from an old teammate that helped him reach a new level.

EDMONTON -- Jaromir Jagr is a hockey icon. From his signature hair style, to the dominance he showed as a player, many fans of the sport remember the player for many different reasons.

Jagr made headlines earlier this season for continuing his playing career despite being 52-years-old. He has played 15 games for Rytiri Kladno of the Czechia Extraliga - the team he also owns. He has collected four assists so far this season.
To be playing professional hockey at his age is an incredible accomplishment. Anyone familiar with Jagr knows that his commitment to fitness is unmatched. He has mentioned in previous interviews that he was doing 300 pushups and 1000 squats a day at a very young age.

Last night some press was on hand at the event "An Evening With Jaromir Jagr". Many who attended took to Twitter to share many of the stories that he told.
One particularly interesting one, was regarding current assistant coach of the Edmonton Oilers, Paul Coffey. Jagr and Coffey were teammates for only two seasons - but they were the first two of his career.

Coffey's impact on Jagr was one that helped him achieve another level of fitness. Michelle Crechiolo took to Twitter (X) to share what he said, "I thought I was working hard, but he showed me another level. And then there's a next level, next level."
"That's what pushed me."

So what exactly was it that helped Jagr increase his fitness game to another level? Coffey laid out a simple - but grusome - plan of attack.
"From now on you're gonna do the bike, you're going to do sprints, one minute on, one minute off. It was the hardest thing I ever did in my life."
The advice seems to have paid off in spades, as Jagr currently sits fourth all-time in career games played in the NHL. He's dressed for 1733 games over 27 NHL seasons.
