Steven Stamkos remains without a contract, and NHL free agency begins in two days. Yesterday, Pierre LeBrun shared that Stamkos' agent, Don Meehan, informed him that Stamkos will hit the free-agent market on July 1. If nothing changes on that front over these two days, the Boston Bruins need to make their pitch for the future Hall of Famer.
The Bruins need a center. It isn't a secret. While Pavel Zacha and Charlie both had excellent 2023-24 seasons, they need that star No. 1 center if they hope to be more significant threats in the Eastern Conference. Even at 34 years old, Stamkos is still a true star, so he needs to be somebody GM Don Sweeney considers targeting.
Stamkos is coming off another fantastic season, posting 40 goals and 81 points in 79 games. There's no question that the Bruins could use another player who produces at a point-per-game pace.

If the Bruins signed Stamkos, he would be a strong option to the Bruins' 1C. However, while the Bruins need clear help down the middle, Stamkos also can play on the wing. With the Bruins expected to lose Jake DeBrusk, Stamkos could be an excellent replacement for him as well.
Ultimately, with the Bruins looking to be genuine contenders, Stamkos should instantly become one of the players on their wish list. Let's see if they make a push for him on Monday.
