After a dreadful start to the season, the Boston Bruins fired Jim Montgomery on Tuesday (Nov. 19). This decision felt inevitable, and the final nail in the coffin came when the Bruins lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets in their last game by a 5-1 final score.

While Montgomery was shown the door by the Bruins, it is clear that the Original Six club still has more work to do. Montgomery was not the Bruins' biggest problem.

The Bruins' roster is simply not working right now, and it is apparent that the Bruins are due for at least one notable trade. After letting players like Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen leave this past off-season, it is clear that they need a top-six winger. In addition, with Elias Lindholm, Pavel Zacha, and Charlie Coyle all struggling this campaign, they could use some serious help down the middle.

However, if the Bruins can't turn things around under new interim coach Joe Sacco, all eyes should move to general manager Don Sweeney and president Cam Neely. After a big off-season of spending and now firing their third Jack Adams winner in eight years, their seats undoubtedly should get hotter if the Bruins continue to struggle.
