The NHL had several players not receive qualifying offers on Monday. Among the pending restricted free agents (RFAs) who did not receive one was Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matias Maccelli.

With this, Maccelli will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1 if the Maple Leafs do not sign him to a contract by then. If Maccelli does hit the market, the Boston Bruins should strongly consider targeting him.

The Bruins were linked to Maccelli this past season, and it would make sense if they tried to land him again this summer. The 25-year-old forward would have the potential to be a strong fit in their top nine and give them another clear option to work with on their power play. 

After a tough 2024-25 season, Maccelli had a solid bounce-back year for the Maple Leafs in 2025-26. In 71 games this past season for Toronto, he posted 14 goals, 25 assists, and 39 points. With numbers like these, he would have the potential to provide the Bruins with some much-needed secondary offensive production if signed.

Maccelli has also shown in the past that he can produce even better numbers. During the 2023-24 season with the Arizona Coyotes, he posted 17 goals and 57 points in 82 games. This was after he had 11 goals and 49 points in 64 games with Arizona in 2022-23. 

With all of this, Maccelli is exactly the kind of young forward who the Bruins should consider taking a chance on if he hits the market on July 1. It will be interesting to see if they can land him from here.
