Don't be surprised if the Flames make a push for this Bruins forward.

July 1 is rapidly approaching, and the Boston Bruins still have not re-signed Jake DeBrusk. While there is still some time left for the Bruins and DeBrusk to work on a deal, it is hard not to feel concerned about his future in Boston.

If the Bruins and DeBrusk do not come to terms on a new deal by the start of free agency, he will be a very popular target. At 27 years old, DeBrusk is in prime and will be for several more seasons. Thus, teams looking for more scoring in their top six will be calling.

The Calgary Flames are one specific club that could be in the mix for DeBrusk if he hits the market. They have expressed interest in him in the past, and there is no question that they could use him in their lineup right now.

While the Flames traded Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin, Nikita Zadorov, and Chris Tanev this season, they are not necessarily in a rebuild. Instead, they are retooling their group and looking for assets that will improve their roster immediately. DeBrusk, without a doubt, would do that.

When looking at the Flames' lineup, it is apparent that DeBrusk would fit in well on either of their top two lines. This is especially so when noting that he can play both sides. In addition, he would give them another much-needed sniper for their power play if signed.
