This Bruins forward has a golden opportunity in front of him.

During this past off-season, the Boston Bruins signed Max Jones to a two-year, $2 million contract. The expectation was that the 2016 first-round pick would be a solid piece of the Bruins' bottom six due to his size, physical style of play, and speed. 

However, after posting zero points, eight penalty minutes, and a minus-4 rating in four games with Boston, he was placed on waivers and assigned to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins, in November. Since then, the 6-foot-3 forward has eight goals and 11 points in 26 games with Providence.

With Mark Kastelic being placed on injured reserve, Jones has now been recalled to their NHL roster with Patrick Brown. This now gives Jones a grand opportunity to show the Bruins that he belongs on their NHL roster rather than down in the AHL.

Given the Bruins' inconsistencies this season, there are clear spots to fight for in their forward group. If Jones impresses during his call-up, it would help his chances of sticking around longer when the Original Six club gets healthier. 

It will be very intriguing to see what Jones can do during his call-up from here. In 262 career NHL games split between the Anaheim Ducks and Bruins, he has 31 goals, 62 points, 219 penalty minutes, and 459 hits.
