While speaking with The Boston Herald's Steve Conroy, Boston Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy shared that he and David Pastrnak will be entering the 2025-26 season as alternate captains. As a result, the Bruins are not expected to pick their next captain just yet.
"Going into this year, we're both going to have A's" McAvoy said about him and Pastrnak. "That's what I know. I don't think there's any fire under them to do anything with that. And guess what? That's totally fine."
The Bruins have been without a captain since they traded Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline. Now, based on McAvoy's comments, this likely will not change before the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
With the Bruins now in a new era of their franchise, it is understandable that they are taking a patient approach when it comes to selecting their next captain. Letting Pastrnak and McAvoy remain as alternate captains will allow them to gain more experience until one of them likely gets the 'C.'
