This former Bruin is starting to find his place with the Maple Leafs.
Former Boston Bruins forward Tyler Bertuzzi is a player that some fans wish that the Original Six club re-signed this past offseason. However, due to their limited cap space, they could not make things work, and the skilled winger signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bertuzzi's start with the Maple Leafs was not the best, as he struggled offensively and had trouble finding a good spot in their lineup. However, now that he is more adjusted to his new team, he has become an immensely impactful player on their roster.
Bertuzzi, 29, is starting to make a notable difference offensively for the Maple Leafs, as he has nine points over his last 11 games. However, besides bringing the offense, he has also given them more much-needed grit. That is an area where the Maple Leafs have been criticized for several seasons now.
Seeing Bertuzzi starting to heat up for the Maple Leafs could be concerning for the Bruins. Depending on how the rest of this season goes, there's a real chance that the Bruins will face the Maple Leafs in the first round of the playoffs. As we saw last year when he was with the Bruins, Bertuzzi can elevate his game when it matters most. In seven playoff games last year with Boston, he had five goals and 10 points.
Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to see how well Bertuzzi finishes off the season from here. In 65 games this season, he has 13 goals and 31 points.
