Former Bruins First-Rounder Traded To New Team

Boston's Cam Neely Could Be Next On The Hot Seat

The Anaheim Ducks have traded former Boston Bruins defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick to the New York Rangers in exchange for Jacob Trouba.

It was reported on Friday (Nov. 6) that the Rangers were either going to trade Trouba or place him on waivers if he used his 15-team no-trade list to block a deal. However, he has now been dealt to the Ducks, and Vaakanainen is heading to New York because of it.

Vaakanainen, 25, has appeared in five games this season, where he has one assist and seven blocks. This is after he set new career highs with one goal, 13 assists, and 14 points last season with Anaheim.

Vaakanainen was selected by the Bruins with the 18th overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In 31 games over four seasons with the Bruins, he had six assists and a minus-6 rating. His time with the Bruins ended during the 2021-22 season when he was traded to Anaheim as a part of the package to acquire Hampus Lindholm.
