Earlier this off-season, forward Jaxon Nelson was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Boston Bruins. As a result of this, the former Bruins prospect became an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1.

Now, Nelson has found his new home after spending over a month on the market as a UFA. This is because he has signed with the Iowa Heartlanders, which is the ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.

Nelson joined the Bruins organization following his final season with the University of Minnesota during the 2023-24 season. During his final season with the school, he stood out, recording 19 goals and 31 points in 39 games as their captain. This was after he recorded 10 goals, 17 assists, 27 points, and a plus-10 rating in 40 games with the University of Minnesota during the 2022-23 campaign.

After joining the Providence Bruins for the final portion of the 2023-24 campaign, Nelson recorded one goal, two penalty minutes, and a minus-4 rating in seven games. From there, he spent all of this past season in the AHL with Providence, where he posted two goals, seven assists, nine points, and eight penalty minutes in 35 games.

Nelson will now look to be a key part of the Heartlanders' roster during the 2025-26 season from here.
